Canada to send troops to Ukraine in non-combat role

Canada will be sending army to Ukraine to perform in a non-contest role in the region in the coming months.

CTV’s Stephenson said, “As long as the government is still working out the details, sources tell CTV News a training target is one of the options on the table. Canada will hopefully work closely with American associates who are already in the region.”

Stephenson said senior Conservatives have been implying at the possibility of an extended mission for weeks, and the move will affirm “Canada’s strong anti-Putin position and help reinforce the Ukrainian government.”

Canada has taken a fair stance against Russian military action in Ukraine, which it expresses as an “illegal occupation.” Canada has appointed sanctions against those liable for the ongoing pressure.

A statement on the Foreign Affairs website states, “Until Russia clearly shows its respect for Ukraine’s supremacy and territorial virtue, Canada will continue to work with its associates and agreeing countries to apply burden that will further detach Russia financially and politically.”
