No water for Haryana and Rajasthan : Punjab government

Punjab government has decided not to give water to either Rajasthan or Haryana. Taking its first expected action , Punjab government has de-notified the land, that was taken from farmers to build SYL canal. This means farmers are owners of the land again and now they will decide whether to give or not their land for SYL.

After long pending decision by Supreme Court, which was given in favor of Haryana and against Punjab. Punjab is already sharing its water with Delhi , Rajasthan and Haryana, and it has no more water to share.

Farmers in Punjab are already debt ridden and committing suicides because of heavy debt. Although electricity for farmers is free in Punjab, but Punjab still depends on irrigation canal water, as the money being spend on farmers for free electricity is again debt on Punjab.

As per the non official sources there are news that government is planning to stop the present share to these states. It means instead of giving extra water to other states , government is planning to take back the existing share too.

It was expected that Punjab elections will focus on SYL in the end, and same thing happened now. People are demanding water for Punjab and present government is ready to fulfill this demand.

Government is planning to send signed undertaking from the people of Punjab, about their will not share water as there is no extra water in Punjab. Government may send truck loaded with documents carrying signed undertakings to the center government to resist unconstitutional decision by Supreme Court.

Chief Minister of Punjab yesterday invited people of Punjab to join hands to fight against the unconstitutional decision by Supreme court. All the parties in Punjab are trying to cash this issue. Congress party has given resigned from the Vidhan Sabha and AAP did it in traditional way of sitting on Dharna.

Sanjay Singh senior leader of AAP, said that in 1978 notice for acquiring farmers land was issued under Badal government, and Chadudary devi lal , then CM of Haryana , thanks Badal publicly for supporting them. On the other hand Captain Amarinder Singh was the first person to invite Indira Gandhi Prime minister of India at that time, to inaugurate the construction work of the canal.

Sanjay Singh alleged that now same political leaders who tried to their level best to water out of Punjab earlier and pretending to be savior of Punjab. He said they have no right to use SYL as an issue for elections.

He requested all the states of the Punjab to come in support. He reminded them that it the Punjab and its people who suffered most for the independence of India. He said we should not forget sacrifices made by Punjabi’s in the freedom struggle.

Sanjay singh also raised the issue of farmer suicide, and said farmers are committing suicide in state and Cancer is a major issue in areas of Bathinda because of polluted water.

So the state with insufficient water for its farmers and polluted water causing cancer, should not be deprived of its right. Targeting Badal’s he said they have their government in center and should have pressurized center to withdraw case in Supreme court well before the decision, which was a easy way out but they didn’t because they want to cash this issue in elections.
