SGPC (Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandak committee) presidential elections are due this year, for which the present SGPC president Sardar Avtar Singh Makkar is again willing to present his services.
Avtar singh Makkar was elected in 2005 as the president of SGPC and served for almost 11 years, now. Election process was halted because of Sahej Dhari sikh issue, where in those who are not baptized but still believe in Sikh ethics and consider shri Guru Granth Sahib ji as their guru ,are asking for right to vote in SGPC elections. Actually Supreme Court of India has barred Sahej Dhari Sikhs from voting in SGPC elections.
Center has already issued notification for the election of new house of SGPC. Avtar singh who is present president of SGPC , showing his willingness to be given the service again, said he will perform his duties in the best possible way. Avatar singh Makkar said, he has been doing his duty as a president in the best possible way , keeping in mind all Sikh faiths and beliefs. Avtar singh had a word with media after notification for elections.
SGPC elections will take place on 5th of November 2016 and general meeting has called upon in Teja Singh Samunderi hall, where all the executive members along with president of SGPC will be elected. Avtar singh Makkar made it clear that it the party supremo who will decide who , is going to be president of SGPC, and if he and party unanimously decide his name , he will not run away from his duty.
