Army deploys latest equipments at Siachen Glacier for troops
The army has deployed several latest technological equipments for a surveillance in the strategically very important Siachen Glacier which is situated at an altitude of nineteen thousand feet from the sea level in Ladakh & has also taken a series of measures for the security of the soldiers from landslides & the other threats.
The official sources have told the Excelsior that the army has been utilizing several modern technological equipments for surveillance in Siachen Glacier including the unmanned aerial vehicles & distinct kinds of radars etc. to assure that there was no breach of the border line at world’s highest battlefield.
Only a required quantity of the troops have been deployed in the Siachen Glacier by keeping in view the threat perception, the ground situation & various other operational aspects.
They have added that all such aspects i.e. involving threat, situation & the operations are periodically reviewed by army to increase the capability of the troops as per the requirement.
Though, they have recalled that not even one bullet has been exchanged by India & the Pakistan at the Glacier, the troops have to be well & fully equipped in order to face any kind of situation.
Regarding the avalanche threat at the Glacier that has led to many casualties there during the last three decades, the sources have said that the posts in Siachen are sited after due mapping to ensure the safety from avalanche threat.
The rescue equipment like the avalanche victim detectors, the specialised mountaineering equipment, the ice drill machine and the avalanche rescue dogs have been deployed on the Glacier to situate & rescue the victims.
By keeping in mind the advances in the technology for the glaciers, efforts are made continuously to upgrade the equipment s which are available for the avalanche rescue, mobility & communication to increase the capability for the avalanche rescue & survival in the glaciated areas as said by the sources.
According to the sources, the soldiers who are deployed at the ‘Siachen Glacier’ are being offered specialized winter clothing which includes the extreme cold climate clothing that involves the trousers, jackets, gloves and the sun glasses etc. to face & tolerate the extreme temperatures as per the authorization.
It should be mentioned here that a few days back, the Indian Army had lost ten soldiers at the Siachen Glacier in a snow avalanche. One of those, Lance Naik Hanumanthapahad survived for five days under the avalanche before he was rescued & shifted to AIIMS in New Delhi but he had died later on.
