Kulwant singh re joined Shiromani Akali Dal ( SAD )

August 2015 has given Mohali first Mayor, in the form of Kulwant singh, but he was forced to cross limits of the party just before the elections and left the party to form Independent group.

This independent group with the help of congress support , was able to win top positions of Mayor and deputy Mayor of SAS Nagar Mohali. Senior congress leader Jain and independent candidate Manjeet singh secured senior deputy and deputy mayor respectively.

At that time 23 elected members of council who belong to Akali Dal opted not to vote, which cleared deck for Kulwant singh to be first Mayor of the top city of Punjab. In total MC is having 50 seats, out of which 23 are SAD-BJP and 14 councillors are from congress and 11 are independent candidates.

In 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Kulwant singh was SAD candidate from Fatehgarh sahib, but he lost the election. After loosing Lok Sabha elections Kulwant singh group decided to fight for Mayor post but the SAD incharge at that time was Balwant singh Ramoowalia, who was having differences with Kulwant Singh.

Result of the circumstances was Ramoowalia opposed ticket to kulwant singh and his group. Kulwant singh group left SAD and fought independently as Kulwant singh was bent to become the first Mayor of the city.

Today in the presence of deputy chief minister of Punjab , S. Sukhbir singh Badal, kulwant rejoin SAD. S. Badal welcomed kulwant back to the party by offering him saropa. Apart from deputy cheif minister, many senior leaders were present in the program , that includes, NK sharma from zirakpur, education minister Dr. cheema, Mr. Babby badal, bibi landran, and many more.
