After Capt Amarinder Singh called for Sonia Gandhi to remain at the command in the Congress, party experienced leader Sheila Dikshit joined his mission today by openly insisting the incumbent chief to continue offering her “overpowering leadership” to the ranks.
In saying so, Dikshit followed in the track of her son and ex MP Sandeep Dikshit who had last week become the first Congress leader to openly demand Sonia Gandhi’s continuation as Congress president. Party’s governmental elections are set to start from May 15.
The election to the post of party president is expected to take place from September 21. After the poll, leaders are taking their respective seats for and anti Rahul whose ascent has remained a subject of speculation with many in Congress believing he is the only one standing in its way.
While backing Sonia today, Sheila augmented on Rahul’s lingering objection to be a leader and lead from the front.
Sheila told PTI, “While it is a pleasure to work under the powerful and successful leadership of Sonia, Rahul Gandhi is yet to perform.”
Many Congress seniors believe that Rahul Gandhi should be more visible and should lead the party more liably than he is currently doing.
Leaders in the party agree that though there’s no doubt about Congress leadership between Sonia and Rahul, the divide is obvious between party’s older guard that fears change and the younger guard that wants it.
